In a major boost for Australia’s growing electric vehicle (EV) ecosystem, consumer tech leader Uniden has teamed up with Sydney-based EV charging platform ivygo to deliver a safer, smarter, and more community-driven way to charge.

The partnership will see Uniden’s award-winning security cameras and dash cams offered as part of ivygo’s innovative peer-to-peer charging network — helping hosts protect their chargers and drivers feel more secure on the road and while charging up.

Peer-to-peer EV charging is a decentralised model that allows individuals and small businesses to share their private chargers with other EV drivers. Instead of relying solely on public charging infrastructure, EV drivers can charge their vehicles at a neighbour’s home, a nearby business, or any location where a private charger is available and listed on ivygo’s network.

“At Uniden, we’re always looking for new ways to apply our security expertise to emerging technologies,” said Brad Hales, Head of Marketing at Uniden Oceania. “Partnering with ivygo allows us to support the EV community and provide solutions that help build a safer, more connected charging network across Australia.”

ivygo’s Founder, Julie Perrissel said, “Our mission at ivygo is to make EV charging simple, accessible, and empowering for both drivers and hosts. Working with Uniden adds an extra layer of confidence for our users, helping hosts feel secure sharing their chargers and giving drivers peace of mind while on the go. Together, we’re building a community-powered network that’s not only greener but smarter, too.”

Launching from May 2025, ivygo users will have access to exclusive pricing on Uniden security cameras and dash cams. The offering allows hosts to monitor their charger locations in real time via Uniden’s industry-leading security cameras, while EV drivers can benefit from dash cams that offer added peace of mind on the road and while charging.

The tech integration with Uniden will elevate ivygo’s peer-to-peer model, providing a seamless, contactless charging experience while building trust between neighbours, communities and EV drivers.

With 114,000 new EVs sold in Australia in 2024, making up nearly one in ten new car sales (9.65%), the demand for flexible, safe, and community-powered charging solutions is soaring.[1]

As EV adoption accelerates, Uniden and ivygo’s partnership addresses two major concerns for new adopters: availability and security — making charging easier and safer than ever, as well as affordable and financially rewarding for all.

ivygo is currently in beta in Sydney. From mid-2025, the company will leverage the momentum of Project 2515 — an electrification initiative supported by ARENA and Rewiring Australia — to roll out its solution locally and deliver a proof of concept in that community, before expanding nationally.
