TL;DR

For the Uniden iGO CAM 90R, impact-triggered parking recording requires a compatible hardwire kit, sufficient external power and the G-Sensor to be enabled. The camera can wake after detecting an impact and record for a limited time. The iGO CAM 90R and hardwire kit bundle includes the power accessory for this setup.

What is dash cam parking mode?

Parking mode is a dash cam function intended for use while the vehicle is parked. The way it operates varies between cameras, so the useful question is what your particular model records and how it stays powered.

With the iGO CAM 90R's impact-triggered parking function configured, a detected impact can wake the camera and start a recording for a limited time. This may help document an incident after it happens, provided power, camera positioning and visibility allow it.

Because the camera wakes after an impact, this function should not be described as a guarantee of uninterrupted footage from before an incident. That distinction matters when comparing parking features.

Why does parking mode need a hardwire kit?

During normal driving, a dash cam receives power from the vehicle. If that supply switches off when you stop the engine, the camera needs another suitable power arrangement to operate while parked.

The iGO CAM 90R's supercapacitor provides brief backup power to save an active recording during shutdown. It is not a long-running power source for parked recording.

A compatible hardwire kit provides the external power arrangement required for parking mode. The iGO CAM 90R dash cam and hardwire kit bundle includes the kit alongside the front and rear camera package.

What changes between driving and parking?

Situation iGO CAM 90R behaviour What matters
Normal driving Records when powered and configured for recording. A compatible, formatted microSD card and working vehicle power.
Vehicle parked, impact-triggered mode enabled Can wake after an impact and record for a limited time. Correct hardwire installation, sufficient external power and the G-Sensor enabled.
Camera shutting down The supercapacitor helps save the recording in progress. This brief backup does not replace the external power needed for parking mode.

Four things to check before relying on parking mode

1. Confirm the kit and vehicle setup

The hardwire kit needs to match the camera and be installed correctly for the vehicle. Follow the current camera and kit instructions. If you are unfamiliar with vehicle electrical connections, have the installation completed by an appropriate installer.

Choose the power arrangement based on the kit supplied with your bundle. Do not assume that every Uniden hardwire kit has the same connections or settings.

2. Enable the relevant camera settings

Having a hardwire kit fitted is one part of the setup. Impact-triggered parking recording also needs the correct parking settings and the G-Sensor enabled. Check the camera menu against the operating instructions rather than assuming the function is active from the outset.

3. Fit and maintain a suitable memory card

The camera needs a dash cam-rated microSD card to store recordings. For the iGO CAM 90R, use a card between 16GB and 128GB with a minimum U3 speed rating. The card is sold separately.

Format the card according to the manual, check that recordings are being saved and back up files you want to keep before formatting.

4. Check camera views and saved footage

An impact sensor can trigger the camera, but it cannot make an obstructed view useful. Keep the lenses clean and position the cameras so the front and rear views are clear.

After setup, check that files are being recorded and can be played back. The built-in 3.16-inch screen and the Uniden app give you ways to review footage while safely parked.

For model-specific settings and care guidance, refer to the Uniden iGO CAM 90/90R operation manual.

Why pair parking mode with front and rear cameras?

The trigger and the camera view do different jobs. An impact may start the recording; the lens position determines what appears in that recording. A rear camera adds another view of the area behind the vehicle.

For example, a rear camera may help show a vehicle behind you after a bump in a car park. An incident outside both cameras' fields of view may still be missed.

Frequently asked questions

Does parking mode record continuously all night?

Do not assume it does. The impact-triggered function described here wakes after detecting an impact and records for a limited time. Available recording depends on power, settings and storage.

Will Wi-Fi let me watch the car remotely?

The iGO CAM 90R's Wi-Fi connects a compatible device to the camera for app access and footage transfer. That local Wi-Fi function is not a promise of remote monitoring from anywhere.

How long can parking mode remain available?

Availability depends on the external power supply, installation and camera configuration. Check the supplied kit's specifications and power protection settings; a fixed duration is not promised.

Can the hardwire kit be used without a memory card?

The kit can supply power, but the camera still requires a suitable microSD card to save recordings.
